Fall in Arlington: Where to Pick the Perfect Pumpkin & Apple
Fall is the quintessential season in Arlington, VA, where residents and visitors alike can relish the crisp air, vibrant leaves, and the season's fresh produce. Embracing the autumn spirit goes beyond enjoying the natural beauty; it's about diving deep into the traditions and activities that make this season special.

The Joy of Hand-Picking Apples and Pumpkins

One of the most cherished fall activities is hand-picking apples and pumpkins from local farms. This isn't merely a delightful activity for families and friends; it's a way to support our local farmers and ensure you're sourcing the freshest produce. When you pick your own fruits and vegetables, you're also creating lasting memories with loved ones and teaching the younger generation about the importance of sustainable farming.

Top Places for Apple and Pumpkin Picking in Arlington VA and Surrounding Areas:

They have a variety of activities and attractions for all ages, such as slides, rope swings, animals, hayrides, corn mazes, and more. They also have other events and offerings throughout the year, such as Smokin’ Saturdays, Foamhenge, Corner Market, and Christmas Trees. They are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (or until 11 p.m. on Fields of Fear nights) and are located at 15621 Braddock Rd, Centreville, VA

Making the Most of Your Harvest

Picking Tips: The art of picking requires a keen eye. For apples, firmness and a shiny skin are indicators of freshness. Pumpkins, on the other hand, should be deep orange with a sturdy stem.

Storing Tips: Proper storage ensures longevity. Apples thrive in cool, dark places, while pumpkins prefer cool, dry spots. For longer storage, freezing is a viable option.

Recipe Ideas: Apples and pumpkins can be used in many delicious dishes, such as pies, soups, salads, breads, muffins, cakes, and more. You can also make your own apple cider or pumpkin spice latte at home with some simple ingredients. Here are some of my favorite recipes for apple pies, pumpkin soups, and other dishes that use these fruits.

Fall in Arlington, VA, is a season to be cherished. It's about celebrating the beauty of nature, the joy of community, and the pleasure of fresh produce. So, put on your boots, grab a basket, and head out to the farms. Happy picking!
